MPVC Celebrated its 1st Anniversary  

Shanghai, China -- The 1st Anniversary Celebration Event of Shanghai Multimedia Park Venture Capital (MPVC) was held successfully on Jun. 19. With the theme of 'Choose the Profession, Grasp the Success -- the Connection of Startups and Venture Capitals', this event became a pageant of multimedia industry and in the field of venture capital. Over 500 people was invited to take part in the event including partners of more than 30 famous VCs, accountant and lawyer offices in the world, delegates from well-known hi-tech companies, banks and foreign embassies, as well as nearlly a hundred of reporters.

MPVC is the first incubator of multimedia industry in China and now in the incubator, there are nearlly a hundred companies in the field of multimedia or related industries whose registration capital has amounted to over 300 million RMB. With the help of MPVC, many companies has grown up quickly and even become the industrial leader. For instance, Focus Media has fulfilled the 2nd round capital raising of over 10 million USD after the huge amount of investment from SOFTBANK and is planning IPO at Nasdaq; Shanghai branch of Alibaba.com has enlarged from 10 employees to nearlly 200 employees; Allyes has become the leading Adnetwork technology and online marketing provider.

Mr. Ma yun, CEO of Alibaba.com, Mr. Jiang nanchun, CEO of Focus Media and Mr. Zhu hailong, CEO of Allyes were present on one of the events called 'MPVC Value Evaluation and Intrduction of MPVC Members'. They talked about their company's development in this one year and also appraised highly of MPVC's value. They especially admired MPVC's assistance for startups in the realm of strategy, business operation, financial and legal management, HR and IT, not only by preferential policy. Mr. Ma yun even said confidently that he would like to 'move back' to Shanghai with the first step of establishing Shanghai office of Taobao.com which is headquartered in Hangzhou.

At the celebration event, United Capital Investment Group (UCI), the first VC of international background in Multimedia Park also signed the enrollment and cooperation agreement with MPVC. UCI announced that they had raised 70M USD oversea fund (including the fund from KTB, the biggest VC fund of Korea) to be invested in China's multimedia industry. Together with UCI, some of its portfios move into MPVC's incubator as well.

'MPVC 1st Projects Recommendation & Business Plan Evaluation's has become the focus of the event for the presence of numerous well-known VCs both in China and in the world, such as IDG, DFJ, CDH, WI Harper, AIG, SOFTBANK, KTB, Siemens, Nokia, UCI, Shanghai VC, China Merchants VC, Fudan VC, etc. After the pre-evaluation, 7 startups won the opportunity to meet up these famous VCs and have their business plan evaluated on the spot. Eventually, the rate of successful recommendation reached 80% and projects like Wealink.com, Wealove aroused great interests from VCs and both sides managed to investment intention.

At the event, MPVC also annouced its plan to establish a HR platform for multimedia industry to help multimedia companies to strengthen their HR management and talents-seeking.

This significant event not only brought forth the rapid development of a professional incubator, but also proved the huge capability that a professional incubator has to help startups to grow fast with its all-round services. MPVC's new model for operating an incubator, viz. integration of 'venture capital' and 'incubation' also shows the developing trend of hi-tech incubators.
